Well, then I hope I'm not intruding. Don't let me keep you from finishing your ritual. To let go of one's past to move forward into the future... that's just another sign of strength if you ask me.
[He smiles in earnest- not once has he thought that this ritual was weird or out of place, or looked down upon it.]
No, I'm afraid I don't have anything to bury. For me, I've already performed this ritual years ago. So there's nothing for me to let go of, really.
[He speaks as confidently as he usually does, but there's a hint of softness to it. Memories were still raw from things he experienced in Deerington, even if it was something he'd already dealt with when he was far younger.]
[He dusted his hands off and kicked at the small pile of dirt he had made. There was no rush; the ritual itself seemed to happen throughout the month.]
Can't say I can even guess, though. You smile lot and are very friendly, but you're a pretty private person.
Heh. [He can't help but laugh- maybe that was the end result of being in the upper echelons of the Fatui that made him that way.]
Let's just say that being somewhere where everyone doesn't know who or what I am has been a new experience for me. Back home, I'm known as number eleven of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, which would probably be likened to perhaps a head general from anywhere else. That exalted status, along with the Fatui being a militaristic operation, has put me in a position where I don't often and won't share details about myself other than to trusted friends.
[Of which, he has very little.]
In fact, "Childe" is my alias of sorts. Most people don't even know my real name.
That sounds impressive... but also a little sad for you.
[Oscar regarded Childe with an owlish curiosity, unsurprised by this revelation and somehow expecting that this would hardly be the first secret that had been hidden. Men who valued their secrets-- like Childe, like Ozpin-- tended to be difficult to break through to.
Yet, there was no hiding the small smile that grew anyway.]
Staying alone is a very hard way to live. We're meant to live together... that's why the first thing babies do is try to communicate.
[Other creatures, not gifted with the same caliber of sentience, each had their own prerogative upon entering the world. Some could stand and run near immediately, others clung to their parent's back but were otherwise bright eyed and alert.
Humans cried, seeking the warmth and comfort of others.]
I'm guessing you haven't told most people all of this, huh?
There was never any need. No one here knows the weight of the title of Harbinger. And, well, giving out my alias is a habit now. But...
[He feels that he should clarify his situation a little bit.]
I wouldn't say I'm totally alone. It's true that I find myself alone often when I'm out visiting other cities on work opportunities, but when I return to Snezhnaya I have a large family to come back to. Hah, honestly, I think you'd get along with my younger siblings quite well.
[It probably had something to do with his age-- being fifteen and emboldened with optimism was a state that a part of him, something ancient and magical, was delighted to exist as again.
The weight of eternity spared no one. Oscar was just glad to lighten the load.]
... But, if you wanted that kinda support here, you don't have to be afraid to reach out. We chose to be here, and we're not going away any time soon.
[He smiles, without a way to really know how to process it- he was his younger sister's knight, the older brother that his siblings looked up to. Though he wasn't the oldest of all his brothers and sisters, his role put him in such a position where it almost felt like he was.]
Why don't we finishing laying your clothes there to rest? It would be a shame if we left something important unfinished.
[Somehow, he suspected that Childe wouldn't take his offer. The man had an air of responsibility towards others that he had seen in other people, and such notions were difficult to assuage. All he could do was offer a smile and support where he could.
Reaching for his shovel, he neatened up the hole and gently laid his old, worn clothes in.]
...Whatever happens, I hope my Aunt and everyone else I left behind is able to lead a good life. There's still a version of us back in our own worlds, right?
[His heart tightened at that thought-- at knowing that some of his precious friends might not be there to see the future of their world with him. But...]
I guess... it'll have to be okay, somehow.
[With those words, he started to push the loose dirt over the clothes-- giving back to the earth which would sustain them in future seasons, in a small way.]
I have a feeling the original version of us still lives on back in our own worlds. I think we can all rest easy believing that.
[Not that he truly knew, but it was a possibility that he very much leaned heavily on. Either way, he and Diluc were determined to discover the secrets of this world.
He knew what came next, and Childe makes sure to pay attention to the kind of blood that would have to come out of Oscar to complete the ritual.]
To new beginnings. Got any idea of how you're going to set off into your new life here?
[Under the daylight, Oscar's blood looked as ordinary as ever. The true secrets of it weren't evident until after darkness fell, under the light of the Moon Presence herself...]
I'm not sure yet, [Oscar explained, finishing off covering the offering with loose dirt and bending down to press it firm with his hands.] Right now, I'm planning to garden, teach others how to do it, and help my friends and family with whatever this world brings.
[Under his hands he felt the earth shift and the brush of new growth against his palms. Lifting them forth, a single yellow chrysanthemum was revealed in all of it's sorrowful autumnal glory.]
But, colors have more meaning in Remnant. You see... there's a lot of history to it so I'll keep it short:
After one kingdom tried to ban the arts as a way to protect it's people from the Grimm-- monsters in my world that show up whenever there is a high concentration of negative emotions, like anger, sadness or fear-- there was a rush to embrace color and the arts when that kingdom was defeated in a war that nearly tore the world apart. Since then, there's a push for parents to name their kids after things that have color. And...
Our powers have colors, which are different for everyone.
[He chuckled and looked away, sheepish over explaining the exhaustive details.]
We share colors when we are showing fondness or loyalty to someone. Teams often have colors as part of their names, too. It's important, you see.
So... even if flowers like this sometimes decorate caskets and burials, I think the color is also important. It's a loss-- so that can be sad. But it's also change, and a reminder that the people we lost would want us to look at the bright things in life even when they're gone.
Life is a beautiful thing. I think I have a better understanding as to why this world gifted you this particular flower.
[He says, as he regards the chrysanthemum. When phrased that way, he sees Oscar as a bright young man, much like this bright young flower that has just sprouted from the seeds of the past.]
I never once thought to view life in terms of colors. Perhaps it's something I've taken for granted, given the beauty of my home. Something to take into account... [He thinks for a moment, intrigued by Remnant's history.] So...what color do you think best represents you?
[It was fitting in more ways than one. Unbeknownst to the boy, in some words there were figures in gold that were given the name 'Oscar'...]
I guess having even the arts outlawed makes people think a little more about the things they took for granted.
[He shrugged, grinning sheepishly. It was easy to see why people wouldn't see colors the same way, especially when they came from worlds where it was easy and safe to express themselves.]
Since everything started, my Aura has been green. I never got to see what color it was before that part of my life changed. But, well...
My favorite colors have always been autumn colors. Reds, oranges, and yellows. A friend also told me that my... everything looked like a warm orange when he looked with his special eyepatch that lets him see magic and energy and stuff.
...It's always been one of my favorites, so I believe him.
Green and orange...those two colors represent you well. Green is a bit more peculiar, however, given its multiple meanings. And when such colors have a great deal of importance in your world, well, don't blame me for being a little curious.
[He wonders what Oscar meant by 'that part of my life changed', and if it had anything to do with his Aura being green. If it did, it wouldn't surprise him.]
Remnant is a weird place, even when compared to all the different worlds we all come from. There aren't too many other places with a broken moon.
[He was grinning, even with the wry words. Childe's curiosity was understandable-- just like Oscar's curiosity about Childe's history and name. There were some details that were too hard to just talk about, but it would seem that this was a commonality that united them.
Just like Childe gave up his name, Oscar gave up his rights to even call himself a farmhand. They both chose to become someone different, whether by design or necessity.]
...What does green mean to you? I've always seen it as being related to the Spring if it's not related to someone's powers.
[He nods, as spring was one of the meanings he knew as well.]
Life, renewal, hope, prosperity, rebirth and immortality...these are also meanings that can be applied to the color green. I wonder if these concepts were taken into consideration from the rules that your world abides by when you gained your power.
[He shrugs, however.]
But, it's just a guess. Who's to say that Remnant follows the same principles as Teyvat?
[It was unnerving, how Rebirth and Immortality were associated with the color green across other parts of the multiverse. Oscar, uncertain of what to say, merely offered a shrug at the question.]
People are the same no matter what world we come from, [He said thoughtfully.] We have the same dreams and fears. Why wouldn't our feelings on color be similar?
[He smiles softly- the same kind of smile he always wears when he thinks about subjects like these.]
Though we all have our own sky and our own moon, we still stand underneath them all the same. Ah...to think that so many lives exist across so many realities. I'm glad I had the chance to learn about them.
[He wishes he could visit them anytime he wanted. But, you can't always get what you want.]
Oscar, do you want to go in and relax for a while? I'll make you some traditional Snezhnayan tea. I hope you like it strong.
no subject
It just seems right.
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm hoping for a fresh start here. There's no longer any good reason to want to go back to Remnant...
And the clothes my Aunt gave me don't even fit anymore.

[He smiles in earnest- not once has he thought that this ritual was weird or out of place, or looked down upon it.]
no subject
[Oscar grinned, equal parts bashful and eager to try something new.]
Don't gestures like this have more meaning if someone's watching? That way, we can help each other not slip up.
Do you have anything you want to bury?

[Oscar admitted, looking curiously up at Childe.]
